TRANSPOSE and TOROW Functions in Excel

When you have a vertical list that you need to make horizontal you can use the TRANSPOSE function to switch it. There is an alternative function that gives you extra options.

The TRANSPOSE function will switch a vertical list to a horizontal list  and a horizontal list to vertical.

You can see examples in the images below.

Excel has two other functions that you can use when you want to switch a list.

You can use the TOROW function to convert a vertical list into a horizontal list – image below.

There is also a TOCOL function which will convert a horizontal list into a vertical list – image below.

The advantage with using the TOROW and TOCOL functions is that they have an option that can omit certain types of cells.

As you can see in the image below the second argument allows you to ignore Blanks and / or Errors.

This gives you a little bit more flexibility if your lists have blank cells or errors.
