Sharing a Power Query Between Files

If you have a created a power query to import data you can save it and have another file access it easily.

I won't share your email with anyone.

Once you have created a power query right click it in the Query & Connections window and choose Export Connection File – see image below.

If you want to have someone else use the power query then you must save the connection file where they can access it.

They will also need access/permission to the same folder name etc for the file or data source.

To bring the power query into a new file click the Data ribbon tab and click the Existing Connection icon – image below.

In the dialog that opens click the Browse for More … button (image below) and find the connection file and click Open.

The standard power query Import data screen will appear.

Saving your important queries to connection files may be worthwhile as a backup should the query file become corrupted.
